Pediatric Snoring

Normally developed, healthy kids with no systemic medical problems DO NOT snore.

Yes, kids can have allergies or asthma, that are affecting their breathing and cause snoring but by deduction, they have a systemic medical problem.

Yes, kids can have respiratory tract infection/inflammation and/or inflamed/enlarged adenoids/tonsils and that can cause snoring but by description, they are not healthy.

And yes, they might not have any systemic medical condition and not be sick and still snore but by design, their airway would not normally develop.

Kids have a calm, deep and quiet sleep, which we, adults often envy.

The best advice is to sleep with your kids for one night, or more. Get your cell phone and record their sleep. Record if they have restless sleep, if they snore or have very heavy breathing and record if they stop breathing (having an apneic event).

I would recommend showing that video to your MD and asking the Medical system for answers. Do not expect too much help but at least some answers.

I would recommend showing that video to your Dentist and asking the Dental profession for help. Do not expect too many answers but at least some help.

Recording your child’s sleep is going to be more of an eye-opener for you and you as a parent must search for answers and help.

Any medication that is aimed to numb down the brain activity and “help” your kid to sleep or calm down the restlessness will affect the airway too as the brain is the main control of the breathing.

Any dental/orthodontic work which has retraction mechanics WILL negatively affect the airway. There is enough research to prove it. Treating your kid’s crooked teeth by retraction mechanics WILL affect the airway that often is the primary reason for the crooked teeth to start with.

It is not you, the parent, guilty of your child’s problems as those are rarely genetic, as it comes to face and jaw development. It is the epigenetic effect of what kids eat and breathe in and the social practices in the modern world. However, as those problems are rarely genetic, there are treatment modalities available that are aimed at the root causes and armed with science to do it.

Normally developed, healthy kids with no systemic medical problems DO NOT snore. Period.
